The G Challenge won't be continuing during 2009. Thanks to everyone who took part, and made the effort to try new things. Thanks also to everyone who took the time to leave a comment here on the blog, it was lovely to hear from you all!

Before any difference can be made we have to have real facts, not numbers from technically challenged office workers. There is a lot of stories told that sound politically correct but do nothing more than make you feel good.
For example:
1 Solar panels are expensive per return and benefit and do little to help in reducing electricity use. A better job can be done by a simple UPS that charges on Night off peak tarriff from 11.00pm to 7.00am and cuts in on peak tarrif 7-9 and 4-6. This would cause load distribution over the load periods and save the power houses during maximum demand periods. Also means you pay night rates for peak usage. Solal at approx $10,000 /1500 watts means for your investment you can run some minor electrical devices beween peak solar periods 10.00am to 15.30pm 1500 watts won't run most appliances. Problem is it takes a lot to ramp up and down the generators for load variatins so they have to be run at a rate to allow for these variations. Load distribution means they could run at a lower rate.
