It’s been a wonderful couple of months of listening and learning from some smart Australians here at G. From chatting to our crew of senior greenies (p. 42) that included grey-haired eco warriors like chef Stephanie Alexander, organic winemaker David Bruer, and organic garden guru Peter Cundall, among others. To visiting our favourite hairy, bouncy, chicken whispering, TV gardener, Costa Georgiadis (p. 62) at his Bondi home, and spending a crisp sunny morning wandering around his verge garden. It was a glorious time to soak up the knowledge they had to share. And so, in turn, our pages the August/September '12 issue are filled with the wisdom we collected from them along the way.
Our capacity to learn from one another is ongoing and unlimited. No single expert can teach us all we need to know to move forward in a positive, sustainable and health-giving way in this crazy, mixed up world. As Costa said to us over a cuppa, “Guru shmuru... I’m no guru. I learn as much off you as I learn off them.” His sentiment sought to express the importance of understanding that we are all learning from one another. And as Costa proves, it doesn’t matter how young or old that teacher may be, as he endeavours to harness energy, soul, and pure baggage-free passion for life from children.
Similarly, this issue we look at the great role a neighbourhood plays in creating community to enable learning and sharing, through our story on living in ecovillages (p. 50), whether small self-sufficient rural developments, or large-scale collaborative city apartment buildings.
Back here at the office, as we start to emerge from the second half of winter and in to the month of spring, keep your eyes peeled next issue for a bit of a ‘spring clean’ with a new-look G magazine – starting with our name itself changing to Green Lifestyle! In our new issue you’ll find the same great stories and more of the lifestyle advice that you know and love so well, with a fresh format and style. Hold onto your hats too, as we announce the winners of our long-awaited Green Awards in the next issue!
