A booming green consumer market and the rising popularity of G: The Green Lifestyle Magazine has led its publishers to boost its frequency to MONTHLY (from bi-monthly) starting next year.

"G Magazine has a circulation of 35,000 – and a distribution of 50,000 copies – making it by far Australia's leading green magazine," said Kylie Ahern, the Publisher of G Magazine and the Chief Executive of Luna Media, the boutique publishing house in Sydney.

Founder of G made chancellor of Monash University

Respected Australian neuroscientist and philanthropist, Dr Alan Finkel, will be the next chancellor of Melbourne's prestigious Monash University.

Finkel, a co-founder of G: The Green Lifestyle Magazine and its publishers Luna Media, is the seventh Chancellor in the university's 50 year history, but the first Monash graduate to be appointed to the prestigious role.

The Monash University Council finalised the appointment at a meeting this week. Vice-Chancellor Richard Larkins said it was a coup for the university to secure the services of such a prominent Australian.

Best Publisher trophy goes to G Magazine founders

Luna Media, publishers of G: The Green Lifestyle Magazine, won an unprecedented nine awards at Australia's Bell Magazine Awards, including Best Small Publisher.

The glossy popular science magazine COSMOS - also published by Luna Media - won the coveted trophies of Magazine of the Year and Editor of the Year.

The 2006 awards, given annually by the magazine industry association, Publishers Australia, were presented at a gala ceremony in Sydney's Four Seasons Hotel on Friday 24 November 2006.

The event was held before an audience of almost 500 and was hosted by Ita Butrose AO OBE, the seasoned publisher, journalist and media personality. It was judged by a panel of 32 independent industry specialists and academics who selected winners in 33 categories.

G Magazine editor wins international award

Sara Phillips. Editor of G: The Green Lifestyle Magazine, has been awarded a 2006 Reuters-IUCN Media Award for Excellence in Environmental Reporting.

Reuters and the World Conservation Union (IUCN) selected Phillips from among other print entries from North America, Oceania and the Caribbean.

“I was thrilled and delighted,” said Phillips. “I didn’t really expect it would happen to me.”

Phillips attended the regional award ceremony on 14 November 2006 in Nairobi, Kenya, which was co-hosted by Reuters and the IUCN. Award winners received a trophy for their excellence in environmental reporting.

New 'green lifestyle' magazine to launch

A glossy and stylish guide to green living in the 21st century is to be launched in Australia.

To hit the newsstands in November 2006, this bold new title – known as G: The Green Lifestyle Magazine – is designed for people who want to reduce their impact on the environment, but don't want to compromise on lifestyle.

"G Magazine will provide practical, evidence-based solutions to living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle," says Wilson da Silva, Editor-in-Chief of G Magazine and winner of the 2006 Bell Magazine Award for Editor of the Year.
