Solar power on the go

A nifty gadget to have around

Portable Everlite solar mini LED spotlights

Product details

Product name: Portable Everlite solar mini LED spotlights

Reviewer: Karen Heinrich

Price: $59

Buy Online: Biome

G Rating:

4

Costing literally nothing to run, these portable Everlite solar mini LED spotlights are a nifty, energy-efficient combination of solar cells and light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

LEDs use 80 to 90 per cent less energy than incandescent lamps and last between five and 10 years, compared with about one year for incandescent.

This mini EverLite tucks away in a pocket, small bag or glove box and runs for 20 hours after just 6 hours of solar charging.

The rechargeable batteries are a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), which does minimal environmental damage in landfill. But since it contains elements that can be recycled, handing the batteries in for recycling is a greener option.

Cleanaway (www.cleanaway.com.au) offers a Battery Recycling Program for businesses. Individuals can hand their batteries in to participating Battery World stores.

The mini light and solar panel can be attached to almost any surface (including a hat, for bedtime reading while camping) using Velcro sticky pads.
