Located in the heart of the sleepy tourist town of Noosa in Queensland, Organika is an organic grocery store and coffee bar established in 2007 by brothers Josh and Chris Barry.

Overlooking the estuary not far from Noosa’s famed beaches, Organika is one of the best-stocked organic grocery stores in the country. If a product is certified organic and Australian made, you’ll find it here – from fruit and vege to bulk grains, dairy and drinks, there’s even eco-friendly confectionery for sweet tooths.

They have an extensive range of organic meat, too, including venison and kangaroo, as well as organic salmon and wild-caught barramundi. Also stocked is baby food and skincare, as well as toiletries and other things for grown-ups, including vitamin supplements. You can also find a good range of biodynamic and macrobiotic products on the shelves.

“We always wanted to have a shop where you didn’t need to go anywhere else to buy organic,” says co-owner Josh. “You can easily come and do your whole weekly shop here.” And they’re seriously passionate about their coffee, too. After studying world master baristas’ techniques, the Barry brothers sourced some coffee beans (certified organic and Fairtrade) locally roasted in Byron Bay for their popular coffee bar.

Their commitment to green practices is total, all the way down to the organic cleaners used for their daily clean of the coffee machines, and the rest of the store. “If you’re serving organic coffee with organic milk and organic sugar, you shouldn’t be running chemicals through your machines at night,” Josh says.

If you’re in the neighbourhood on your next holiday, make sure you drop in to Organika at 2/205 Weyba Rd, Noosaville. Light snacks at the Espresso Bar are around $6 to $8. For more info see or call (07) 5442 4973.
