While most people say they are concerned about sustainability issues and want to live sustainable lifestyles, there is still a gap between good intentions and taking action. Sydney Festival is joining forces with Unilever to present a lively and thought-provoking panel discussion with international and national panellists to debate the topic Can Consumption Become Sustainable?, asking if adopting sustainable practices can improve lifestyles in cities and our greater world. The discussion will be chaired by broadcaster, author and comedian Adam Spencer.

Where: City Recital Hall Angel Place, Sydney, NSW.
When: 6:30pm, Tuesday 24 January, 2012.

Buy Nothing New is not about going without, nor is it Buy Nothing New Never. It’s about taking October to reassess what we really need, think about where the stuff we buy comes from (finite resources), where it goes (landfill), and what our alternatives are. It is about conscientious consumption and by not spending on stuff we don’t need, increasing our savings for the things we do need. Obviously, you'll need to buy necessities such as groceries, medication and hygiene products - just steer clear of new items such as CDs, home décor, presents or luxury goods. Pledge to Buy Nothing New during October and challenge overconsumption.
