If you are concerned about the potential negative effects of genetically modified food on our bodies and the environment, then hop along to your nearest city centre on 25 May and march against Monsanto, the poster-corporation of GM food. The march is part of a worldwide protest against the possible harmful effects of the industry, including ecological contamination, decreased biodiversity and human health risks - not to mention big business creating monopolies and capitalising on our food production. Protests are to be held in the major city centres of most Australian states, corresponding with similar movements globally.

When: 25 May, 2013.

Garden Week, Western Australia's longest running landscape and outdoor living expo, is back this year to showcase the latest in gardening, landscaping and outdoor innovations. Boasting over 120 exhibits, there will be thousands of plants to buy, as well as the opportunity to check out everything else from rainwater tanks to worm farms. This year the focus will be on waterwise gardening, so there will be plenty of opportunities to pick some worthwhile hints and tips on the way.
There are plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained for the whole time, with an interactive wildlife farm, pot planting, craft and much more.

Theatre of Ideas will be just one of the exciting events the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival will present. Come along as three inspirational minds of the culinary world, Matthew Evans, Magnus Nilsson and Michael Stadtlander, as they discuss and explore ways to shape the world – and the earth – as we know it.
 
All living off their farms, Matthew, Magnus and Michael will bring the knowledge and experience from their kitchens and gardens to the stage to tackle the question: how are we going to feed ourselves in the decades to come? Focusing on food traditions and sustainability, each presenter will give their own take on preserving the earth and its bounty, delving into such questions as why should we reduce our meat intake and why the chef/farmer relationship is so important.
