Can you grow Australia’s heaviest watermelon? As part of the Yates Junior Landcare Watermelon Challenge, a free packet of Yates Candy Red Watermelon seeds will be sent to everyone who registers on the challenge website by Sunday, September 25th. The challenge is open to all children aged 16 years and under and living in Australia.

Where: Across Australia.
When: Registrations close on Sunday, September 25th. The free seeds will be sent out in October and can be planted anytime from October through to December.

Climate Change - exhibition at Scitech

Climate Change: our future, our choice is an exhibition designed to challenge visitors to question the world around them. This unique and informative exhibition takes visitors on a voyage to look at what the future may hold for our world's climate unless we take action. Visitors will be challenged and surprised by objects, interactive games, graphics and audio-visual projections as they take an exciting journey through various climate-changed futures. Find out if your house would be underwater if sea levels were to rise, use your body to make electricity or see which animals may become extinct if we don't take steps to counter the change immediately.

Where: Scitech, City West centre, Sutherland Street, West Perth, WA.
Cost: Adults $14 ($10 after 3pm); Concessions $10; Children (aged 4 - 15) $9; Children three years and under are free.

Taronga's 'Zoo Adventures' Program

Meerkats at Taronga

9:30am - 3:30pm weekdays from January 4 to January 21.

Taronga Zoo will keep the kids entertained with a different theme each day. Listen to the Tiger Keepers as they tell some tales; look into the new home for the Tasmanian Devils; learn more about the zoo's baby elephants; study similarities between humans and chimps; help build a Meerkat maze and mansion; take some play items into the lion enclosure; and learn how to be a zoo keeper of a zoo vet for a day.

Where: Taronga Zoo, Mosman, Sydney, NSW.
Cost: $55 per day per child. Additional supervision is available from 8am to 5.30pm and costs a further $22 per day per child.

'Kids on the Coast' - school holiday activities

The Coastal Environment Centre is an award-winning environmental learning centre teaching people how to value and care for our natural environment. These holidays they have some great activities that children will love! The program is aimed at kids aged between 5-12 years old, and combines a mix of outdoor adventure, discovery and learning, fun and games, art and craft: all with an emphasis on the plants and animals that make up our coastal environment.

Where: Pelican Path, Lake Park Road, North Narrabeen, NSW.
Cost: Single 2hr session $20 per child (standard activity), Full day $55 per child (10am-3pm for standard activities, includes lunchtime supervision, BYO lunch), Fishing Clinic $40 per child (age 8-14 yrs), SEA Surf Safety $49.50 per child.
