The construction of Plastiki - a plasic sailboat

A Peek at the Production Happenings on Pier 31, where British adventurer David de Rothschild is building a sailboat made of recycled plastic bottles that he plans to sail to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

Come on guys! I really don't find journalistic response that riveting. Tell us about the construction. There is so little available about this project (even on Plastiki's own website www.theplastiki.com) - just a lot of enthusiastic comments. I want the meat! I can't even find a decent picture of the structural details of the boat made "entirely" of plastic bottles and an aluminum pipe mast. I love engineering - show us how they did it!

Hi Mike, we've covered a little on the construction of the Plastiki in our recent news article here. There will also be more on the adventures of the Plastiki in our September/October 2010 issue. Plus, if you can get down to the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney, you can check out the boat for yourself!
